Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. What kind of meditation do you teach?

A. It’s what we call “heart center” meditation. It is not a specific technique but rather an overall method in which we can make use of various techniques to calm the mind and enter the spiritual heart.

Q. Who is Sri Chinmoy?

A. Sri Chinmoy is our meditation teacher. You can find out more about his life and his philosophy here.

Q. Is this a religion?

A. No, definitely not. Meditation is not a religion but a method for going within ourselves to discover our inner reality. Every person can learn to meditate regardless of background. The basic principles of meditation are found in all traditions.

Q. Why are the classes free?

A. Students of Sri Chinmoy offer these classes as a public service. We believe that the experience of meditation should be as widely available as possible. We ourselves were once searching for peace and fulfillment. We are grateful for what we have found and would like to share what we have learned with others.

The peace and joy we get from meditation belong to everyone. The only payment is sincerity and regularity in your practice.

Q. What should I bring to the class?

A. It is excellent if you can shower and wear clean, loose clothing, but if there is no time to do this, it’s fine. The really important thing is your sincere aspiration and wish to discover something new in your life.

Q. What is the Sri Chinmoy Centre?

A. The Sri Chinmoy Centre is a worldwide community of people from all faiths and all walks of life. We follow the path of meditation and service as taught by Sri Chinmoy. Through our meditation we aim to grow in peace and light within ourselves. Through service to humanity we aim to increase world harmony and help create a better world for all.  More about the Sri Chinmoy Centre here.

Q. Do you have a meditation center I can visit?

A. Each of us needs to learn to be our own “meditation center” so that we can meditate at any time and wherever we are. Our own heart is always open for meditation. When our individual meditation is solid, then we can get the most out of going to a special place.

Q. Are there more meditation classes after this workshop?

A. Our purpose in offering classes in meditation is to help you begin your own practice and make it strong. If you feel a connection to this way of meditation and would like to know more, we offer continuing classes where you can learn more about Sri Chinmoy’s spiritual path. We will have details for you at the workshop.
